5 Tips for Moving Out of State

1.Plan earlier than you think!-

This lands in the first spot because it is the most important! There is a national shortage of inventory in both homes for sale and rentals. As soon as you know you will be moving, start researching your area to see the available properties, don’t wait until right before or you risk being homeless.

2. Visit your new City ( and Housing Choices )-

Make a list of places that are of interest to you, do some pros and cons, and then create a smaller list of places that you can actually visit if you were to make a short trip to your city.

3.Pack early-

Similar to planning, it’s important to start the packing early. TIP- Pack the items you use the least (Christmas decorations, extra clothes, etc.) first so you will have more time to focus on packing and labeling the more important items such as Kitchen items and items for every day use.

4. Factor in moving costs-

Having an idea of moving expenses will make the process easier when it comes time to actually move. Whether you choose to do most yourself ( U-Pack) or hire professional movers, put the money aside ahead of time. Don’t forget to factor in other costs such as lodging, gas, moving supplies, and any misc items needing to be shipped.

5. Have supplies on hand-

9 times out of 10, you will end up realizing you have more things than you anticipated. Make sure to get enough boxes, bubblewrap, saran wrap and packing tape. This will save you precious time of revisiting stores.
